Biography

A product of the Pacific Northwest, Gavi de Tarr is an emerging trumpeter, composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist in the Portland music scene. Gavi has earned a degree in Composition from Portland State University. His strong background in music theory has enabled him to perform with a wide variety of groups in the Northwest. Some of the more notable groups include, R&B/pop singer-songwriter Debra Arlyn, Portland’s Female Artist of the Year in 2008; with saxophonist Dave Milne, reggae band Wakamanwho, Funk Shui, and his own project Ocean Age, in which Gavi writes, arranges, sings and perform on a variety of instruments.

Gavi also teaches in the Portland area. Gavi also acknowledges symphony player Steve Conrow, master of jazz trumpet improvisation Dick Titterington, and one of the world’s foremost slide trumpeters Steven Bernstein, as well as the guidance of Darrell Grant and Charley Grey at Portland State University; who he owes a debt of gratitude for their guidance.

Contact Gavi for information on his performance schedule or lessons.
