Biography
Juno award winning artist Brad Turner is one of Canada¹s most
prominent and prolific jazz artists. Based in Vancouver, Brad is known
mainly for his trumpet playing, but is actually proficient on three instruments
(trumpet, piano and drums).
Brad has performed and/or recorded
with such artists as Joe Lovano,
Renee Rosnes, Kenny Werner , Gary Bartz, Ingrid Jensen, Mike Murley, P.J.Perry,
Pat LaBarbara, Marvin Stamm, Campbell Ryga, Phil Nimmons, D.D.Jackson, and recently
recorded with John Scofield and percussionist Mino Cinelu on the latest Metalwood
release for Universal Records, The
Recline.
Winner of Jazz Report Magazine¹s Trumpeter of the year Award
for 1999 and
Jazz Composer of the year for 1998 and 2002, Brad was
nominated for two Juno Awards for the year 2000 (for the recordings Brad
Turner
Quartet - Live at the Cellar, featuring Seamus Blake as well as
for
Metalwood 3.)
Brad can be heard leading a number of different groups
including the Brad Turner Trio, the Brad Turner Quartet, nominated for the
Georgia Straight¹s National Jazz Act of the Year for 1999, and co-leading
Metalwood, Juno-winners for contemporary jazz album of the year in both 1998
and 1999, winners
of the West Coast Music Award for jazz album of the year for 1998 1999 and 2000, and Jazz Report magazine¹s winner for Electric
Jazz Group of the Year for 1998 and 1999. Brad was also nominated for 1999¹s
Musician of
the Year by the Pacific Coast Music Industry Association.
